Yummy Chocolate French Toast
Recipe supplied by: Alice Buxton Age: 13 yearsYou don’t have to be French to cook this…..nearly every Kiwi knows how to cook French Toast but not all egg-sperts know how to cook this chocolate bonanza that my good friend Alice whips up.
- 2 Farmer Brown eggs
- ½ cup milk
- ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
- Nutella or chocolate spread
- 4 slices white bread, crusts removed
- 2 tbsp butter (or mix ½ butter and oil to prevent burning)
- Icing sugar, to dust
- Get Mum and Dad to give you a hand….they won’t have to do much except help you eat it.
- Break the Farmer Brown eggs into a bowl, add the milk and whisk lightly. If you wish, add cinnamon for additional flavour.
- Spread the Nutella onto two of the bread slices. Sandwich together with the remaining slices of bread. Cut each sandwich diagonally into 4 triangles.
- Melt the butter in a nonstick frypan over low heat.
- Dip each triangle into the egg mixture so that both sides are well coated (but do not soak). Add the bread to the frying pan, cook until golden in colour. Turn over, using a spatula or fish slice, and cook the other side until it is golden too.
- When the 2nd side has browned remove from the frypan and stack nicely on a plate.
- Dust with icing sugar to serve.
Other good serving ideas: Serve with cinnamon, jam, maple syrup, fruit syrup or fruit slices.
